Terra Alta, a region to explore

Terra Alta at 15 km. from the rural house. Terra Alta is a region located in the west of the province of Tarragona (Catalonia) to which Caseres belongs. Great unknown for the majority, it offers rural landscapes still to discover and the best wines of the D.O. Terra Alta. D.O Terra Alta.
In Terra Alta you can visit museums and several sites related to the Battle of the Ebro(Corbera d’Ebre, Gandesa, la Fatarella, etc.)
Villages such as Horta de Sant Joan, Arnes or Batea, with amazing medieval old towns are only a few kilometers away from Caseres.

You can also visit the wineries and cooperatives of the region, which enjoys a great winemaking tradition. It stands out for its uniqueness and great architectural beauty the Cooperatives of Gandesa and Pinell de Brai, since they were built by the architect Cèsar Martinell.

Matarraña, unique villages and unique getaways

The Matarraña is the neighbouring regionlocated in the east, within the province of Teruel (Aragon). It is recognized for its rural and cultural charm, as well as its rich gastronomy, which we can enjoy in most of the restaurants of its villages. The villages of Matarraña that stand out for being declared Historic-Artistic Sites are: CalaceiteCalaceite, is one of the best preserved urban groups of the Matarraña, with numerous stately houses, chapels, hermitages and a town hall of the XVII century. Valderobres, with a medieval old town, nestled between its castle and the stone bridge that crosses the Matarraña river and gives access to the main square.

La Fresneda, where there are numerous monumental buildings, including the church, the Convent and the Casa de la Comanda, as well as the main street and the main square.

Els Ports de Tortosa-Beseit, natural space Biosphere Reserve

The Natural Park of Els Ports at 20 km. from the cottage The Natural Park of Els Ports offers us the possibility to practice all kinds of mountain sports: hiking, canyoning, mountain biking, via ferrata, etc. … From the rural house La Posada we can accede to Els Ports as much for the part of Aragon (Beceite, Valderrobres, Peñarroya),as for the part of Catalonia(Arnes, Horta, Prat de Comte).

 

Each area has its particular attraction, but we can highlight the Parrizal, the Pesquera, the Pena reservoir and the Masmut rocks on the Aragon side. On the Catalonian side we can highlight the Estrets, les roques de Benet, the Canaletas ravine and the Grilló hill.

The Ebro Delta, a bird paradise

In the final stretch of the Ebro River before it reaches the sea, we can enjoy the Ebro Delta Natural Park, one of the wetlands with the greatest diversity of birds that we can find in the entire Mediterraneanand some deserted beaches. Taking advantage of the exit to the Delta we can also visit Tortosa, with the cathedral and the Zuda Castle. The small coves of the beaches of Atmella de Maror back home the caves of Benifallet.

Morella, a journey into the past
